In 2012 I discovered “Whittington Park Community Association,” a community centre based at the edge of Whittington Park on the north end of Holloway Road in London, through an exhibition of my paintings as part of “Islington Exhibits.” I went on to work for the centre for the next 2 years. I became part of its community and became close to many members of its lunch club for over 60’s. From 2014 to 2015 I worked as an Activities Coordinator at Denville Hall, a care home in Northwood, West of London.
Through this line of work I became interested in how art, when created as part of and with a community, can forge a sense of purpose and identity. I also became interested by how stories are shared and made in creating a work of art as a group. These experiences have influenced how I think of illustration and animation and led to the development of projects such as Our Collective House and the WPCA Archive.
