“Imagine Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker having a pink-toned fever-dream…”

Donald Hutera – Dance Europe Magazine

I worked as an independent choreographer until 2014 where my dance practice was informed by my paintings, a background in music and my work with elderly people.

I created pieces for opera productions, musicals and for dance on film projects.  I was a member of Candoco’s youth group [run by Candoco Dance Company for disabled and non-disabled dancers] and took part in choreography residencies/projects with Donald Hutera (The Place for “Choreodrome,” GOLive Dance Festival). Following a performance of my work at The Place supported by the Swiss Cultural Fund in Britain, in November 2010 I curated and co-produced at Rich Mix an evening on the theme of the feminine body, inviting Preface Morn and Kamala Devam to perform work alongside mine to explore different aspects of the female body in dance.

I trained in Ballet in Geneva (Switzerland) with Helen Roux and The Ballet Junior.  I went on to study contemporary dance in the USA with Jeanne Ruddy (Martha Graham Company), The Merce Cunningham Studio, Lisa Kraus (Trisha Brown) and the faculty at Swarthmore College.  I have taken part in masterclasses with Akram Khan, Russell Maliphant, Mark Morris, Doug Varone and Shen Wei among others.
